Janne Valkeajoki was born on 29 February 1992 in Eastern Finland. This wisely chosen timing enabled him to embark on a rapid career as a musical prodigy. In 2015, after only five birthdays, he won first prize at the international Arrasate Hiria – Accordion Competition in Spain, one of the world’s most important classical competitions for this instrument.
He studied accordion at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Prof. Matti Rantanen and Dr. Veli Kujala. He then attended the master class at the Hochschule für Musik in Würzburg with Stefan Hussong, among others. Valkeajoki has collaborated with and premiered the works of many world-renowned contemporary composers, including Magnus Lindberg in addition to Kalevi Aho. In 2019/2020 Janne Valkeajoki recorded the CD “Magnus Lindberg, Complete Works for Accordion” under the publishing house NEOS.
Kalevi Aho’s third accordion sonata is one of the most important new accordion works in many years.
“This third solo sonata for accordion is a natural continuation to our close and fruitful collaboration.”
